Motobu-Ha Shito-Ryu
Welcome to the Kihon Kumite Dojo website. I picked the name based on my belief that an emphasis on the basics in Karate will help a student go far.
Kihon Kumite Dojo means basic fighting school.
As cool as the moves in a kata are, a lot of them are hard to pull off in a fight without years of practice. Most fights you see are mostly punching and kicking. I practice a series of simple blocks, strikes and kicks that can make hundreds of different combinations.
As the student advances, the bunkai (application) of those same basics changes. A simple block becomes a move that takes the opponent down.
Katas and their application are still a part of the class. After all, the katas ARE the heart of style.
